Diana:

On this week's episode of Devil's Trap podcast, we get the goth club Liz always wanted, the shapeshifting power Diana always.

Liz:

Wanted, and the episode that, sadly, nobody wanted.

Liz:

Let's do this.

Diana:

Welcome to this week's episode of Devil's Trap podcast.

Diana:

I'm Diana.

Liz:

I'm Liz.

Diana:

And this week we're going to talk about season nine, episode 20, Bloodlines.

Liz:

We are?

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

You.

Diana:

You're not excited?

Liz:

I am excited to talk a bunch of about it.

Liz:

No, I think there is quite.

Liz:

And I have you.

Liz:

The Internet will back me up that this is a terrible episode of Supernatural.

Diana:

Well, before we dive in, what have you been up to?

Liz:

Well, this weekend, why is it not showing up on my phone?

Liz:

God damn.

Liz:

I want.

Liz:

So this weekend, there was another really amazing momentous event, and it was the ladies of Supernatural.

Liz:

And for saying, of some reason, I had to find the pictures I sent to you because they're not showing up in my role.

Liz:

But I mean, it really was the ladies of Supernatural.

Liz:

It was all of them.

Liz:

And I mean, not all of them that would have been.

Liz:

But it was still it, you know, so it was quite.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

Brianna Buckmeister, Elena Hoffman, Emily Swart, Swallow, Ruth Connell, Shoshana Stern and Kim Rhodes and Rachel Minor, Lisa Berry, Sam Smith, Felicia Day, Julie McNiven.

Liz:

And then Jen Padalecki did a jump in.

Liz:

Even though she wasn't supposed to be on there.

Liz:

She had just been listening in.

Liz:

And they're like, why didn't you join Jen?

Liz:

And then Jen jumped in.

Liz:

So it was really amazing.

Liz:

Like, I think that's.

Liz:

They think they said that's the first time that's ever happened that the.

Liz:

All of, like, those ladies have been together.

Liz:

So to have like, that group of just, you know, powerful, strong women who are just, like, really cool and were such a fun part of the show.

Liz:

And just that they're all just.

Liz:

They're just so nice.

Liz:

They're just such nice ladies.

Liz:

And, you know, like, the.

Liz:

The questions were like, really were.

Liz:

Were good.

Liz:

So there was like, somebody said that they were going on like a first date.

Liz:

So you asked for first date advice.

Liz:

So we got first date advice from.

Liz:

And they.

Liz:

So that was a really.

Liz:

I think that was a fun question because, you know, and we got, you know, talked about, like, you know, who, like, who was single and who was married.

Liz:

So kind of got some like, you know, insight into that, you know, and just, you know, so it was.

Liz:

It was a fun conversation.

Liz:

And then, you know, even though.

Liz:

And this is gonna.

Liz:

So it was about the women, but because Jim Padalecki did that.

Liz:

Jump in.

Liz:

I, you know, got to see, like, Jared Padalecki's kitchen.

Liz:

It's fucking massive.

Liz:

And their backyard, too, which is like.

Liz:

It's very.

Liz:

Is a very Austin house.

Liz:

I'm just, like, looking at everything and like, oh, what did they.

Liz:

How did they do that?

Liz:

What did they have hanging there?

Liz:

What did they like?

Liz:

Way beyond anything I could ever afford.

Liz:

But it was.

Liz:

I mean, so, yeah, it was kind of cool to see the inside of Jerip out of Mickey's house.

Liz:

Not gonna lie.

Diana:

Like, accidental cribs.

Liz:

It was an accidental thing, but because she was walking around, so it wasn't like she was just sitting in front of a zoom thing because she was making Mac and cheese for her K after and left.

Liz:

And I'm just.

Liz:

You see, y'all don't even have to pay to go to those things.

Liz:

If you just listen to us, I'll tell you what happens on this stuff.

Liz:

But, you know, she had leftover water burger and then was making, like, Annie's.

Diana:

Mac and cheese leftover water burger.

Diana:

How does that.

Liz:

Sometimes.

Liz:

Yeah, she.

Liz:

Sometimes you have leftover water burger.

Diana:

You do sometimes, never.

Liz:

You just gotta order too much.

Diana:

Fair enough.

Liz:

Order more.

Liz:

Like, what does your order look like?

Liz:

Is it see and you don't get.

Liz:

See, you.

Liz:

You also only get it through the drive through.

Liz:

I know that.

Liz:

I think they were getting theirs through the drive through because it was at 3:00 in the morning, so that sounds like after something.

Liz:

But look at all this tea I'm dropping.

Liz:

Oh, my God.

Liz:

So.

Liz:

But if you should, like, you know, Uber eats enough whataburger that they send you multiple utensils, you know, so I.

Diana:

Definitely don't Uber eats it.

Diana:

I usually go there or drive through if I'm getting whatever.

Diana:

I know you do, but my secret thing that I always like to get a whataburger is you get a side of gravy.

Diana:

And you.

Diana:

With the fries.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

Remember, we were also having this really great conversation about cholesterol right before this podcast started.

Diana:

We did.

Liz:

We were like, yeah, you know, your pl.

Liz:

Your cholesterol just gets worse the older you get.

Liz:

So you take your fries and you dip them in gravy, and then your.

Diana:

Last couple bites of your burger, you dipping it too just.

Diana:

But that's, you know, that's different.

Liz:

And just the super healthy whataburger cream gravy.

Liz:

If you don't listen in a place where you can get whataburger cream gravy.

Liz:

I'm sorry, I'm so Sorry.

Liz:

That is a sad state of affairs.

Liz:

It's a sad thing.

Diana:

As long as you can get the spicy ketchup, you'll be fine.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

So the whole thing was good, and everybody.

Liz:

Everybody had a great time.

Liz:

So I.

Liz:

You know, we're not brought to you by this, y'all.

Liz:

Check out the things that momentous does.

Liz:

It's fun.

Liz:

I think, like, Sam Smith is doing a reading of a.

Liz:

Like a reading a Christmas book coming up as one of her meet and greet things or her things on there.

Liz:

So all sorts of fun things on there.

Liz:

And it was just.

Liz:

Yeah, it was really cool to see all of them together and found out, you know, some of their projects, like Lisa Berry has.

Liz:

There's a new black beauty called Beyond Black Beauty.

Liz:

And so, like, there's a new horse show and that she's.

Liz:

That she just did.

Liz:

And it's on prime.

Liz:

So I'm gonna.

Liz:

After I get done watching all the seasons of the Equalizer with Queen Latifah, that is my.

Liz:

That is my next.

Liz:

I don't know why I'm back to binging tv.

Liz:

It's been a while since I was on a binging TV thing again.

Liz:

Maybe it's just cyclical y.

Diana:

You know, defense where I stumble into it for me, but.

Diana:

Okay.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

I mean, I think it's also because this is supposed to be cozy fall season, and I think I want to nest, and then my body is just confused because it's, you know, like 90 degrees and it doesn't know what to do.

Liz:

Although it was like 45 degrees this morning, and then.

Liz:

And then it was 85.

Diana:

Because Texas.

Diana:

Yeah, it was.

Diana:

They did get warm again.

Liz:

Just.

Liz:

You're watching the news day just went.

Liz:

Just.

Liz:

It just swings 40 degrees.

Liz:

Like, that's what.

Liz:

What happens here in the fall.

Diana:

We were laughing.

Diana:

We were watching the new weather with, like, family that was visiting, and it's like, oh, it's going to snow at your home in the next few days.

Diana:

I'm like, I was 80 here.

Diana:

Sorry.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

So, I mean, but it's.

Liz:

It's November in Texas, so in a couple of days, it'll be 20.

Diana:

Yep, pretty much.

Liz:

So what.

Liz:

What was.

Liz:

What have you been up to?

Diana:

Oh, that's a loaded question.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

So what.

Diana:

Since we recorded last, what have I been up to?

Diana:

Did I go to a concert?

Diana:

I think I went to a concert.

Liz:

Did you go to a con.

Liz:

I think you just had wedding all weekend.

Liz:

Did you take.

Diana:

Did you take family?

Diana:

I went to a show on Wednesday, and I'm wondering if that Was when.

Diana:

I mean, when we.

Liz:

Before we recorded on Monday.

Liz:

So.

Diana:

Yes.

Liz:

Okay.

Liz:

So it has been zero days since Diana saw a band.

Diana:

Exactly.

Diana:

No.

Diana:

So, yeah, we.

Diana:

So I got.

Diana:

I did get to.

Diana:

I got to.

Diana:

I got to get the top secret Jack White show in Dallas, so.

Diana:

But it was really cool.

Diana:

And I'm not like, a super fan, but I'll say he does put on a really good rock and roll show in a small club setting.

Diana:

Personal opinion, but then that's your thing.

Diana:

And then if he puts on, like, a legitimately good rock and roll show, you just might not like his music.

Diana:

But he didn't put on a good show.

Diana:

But then.

Diana:

Then I.

Diana:

Yeah, then it's been wedding whirlwind in our world here, because my stepson got married to a lovely young lady, and I helped a bit with the planning, and it was at a place that I'm affiliated with, and so it was super fun, and it was pretty, and everybody was happy, and they had a mariachi, and we had tacos, and Victor E.

Diana:

Green, the mascot for the Dallas Stars, came, and it was fun.

Diana:

Yay.

Diana:

And then I hosted family, and now I'm tired.

Liz:

Yeah, you just did the holidays ahead of the holidays.

Liz:

Like, you just did all the family stuff ahead of all the family stuff that you're gonna have to do again.

Diana:

All squished together.

Liz:

Yeah.

Diana:

People were trying to ask me about holiday.

Diana:

I'm like, don't ask me anything until after the wedding.

Diana:

That's where I've been.

Diana:

So.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

But I'm very happy for them, and it was very sweet and got to get some nice time with family and introducing family that hadn't met before and.

Diana:

And stuff like that.

Diana:

So.

Liz:

Yeah, especially I'm like.

Liz:

I'm trying to, like this, not to depress y'all, but, like, all my family gatherings over the last year have been at funerals, and there's just been a lot of them, so I feel like that's.

Liz:

It'd be much nicer to see families in a wedding situation.

Liz:

Although my cousin.

Liz:

Yeah, my cousin got married, didn't invite me, so.

Liz:

So maybe that's why.

Liz:

I don't know.

Liz:

They're just like, you're.

Liz:

You're much more.

Liz:

We expect to see you.

Liz:

You're much more made out for the.

Liz:

The funerals and the weddings.

Liz:

Like, damn.

Liz:

Yeah.

Diana:

Well, when you hover in the back wearing the black dress with the black veil and the black umbrella all the.

Liz:

Time, that's not what you wear the wedding.

Diana:

Just kidding.

Diana:

Oh, kidding.

Diana:

Well, apparently, we're gonna have Some controversy about this episode tonight.

Liz:

I don't understand how there.

Liz:

I don't know why there's controversy about this episode.

Liz:

Like there shouldn't be.

Liz:

Okay, so this is historically known as the worst episode of Supernatural.

Diana:

Really?

Liz:

Everybody.

Liz:

Everybody hates this episode.

Liz:

Everybody.

Liz:

So.

Liz:

All right.

Diana:

I don't hate this episode.

Liz:

So this is Bloodlines.

Liz:

This is season nine, episode 20.

Liz:

And we'll cover a lot of the backstory about why this episode happened and what the.

Liz:

What it was supposed to be and what it didn't become because it was terrible.

Liz:

,:

Liz:

So this was a Robert Singer episode and it was written by showrunner Andrew Dabb.

Liz:

So those people did this.

Liz:

And so we don't get a recap.

Liz:

There's no recap at the front of this episode, which is a sign it has nothing to fucking do with Supernatural.

Liz:

Anyways.

Liz:

Okay, so it opened in Chicago, Illinois.

Liz:

And it's in a nice restaurant that.

Liz:

God damn it.

Liz:

I miss eating in nice restaurants.

Liz:

I haven't eaten.

Liz:

I haven't gone out to eat in so long.

Diana:

Yes, they are eating at a nice restaurant in Chicago and they do not.

Liz:

Look old enough to be drinking the wine that is on their table.

Diana:

They look barely old enough.

Diana:

But yes, they're young.

Diana:

Very, very, very young couple.

Diana:

And he gets referred to as Ross or Mr.

Diana:

Ross.

Diana:

And they're flirting and sweeting and obviously they've been together for a while.

Diana:

And he's gonna go talk to the maitre d.

Diana:

That's what I just assume he is.

Liz:

I just kind of go down.

Liz:

He's.

Diana:

Or whatever his name ends up being.

Diana:

But yeah, Michael maitre d a bunch.

Diana:

And basically he's going to.

Diana:

Brought Mr.

Diana:

Ross.

Diana:

Our young man is going to propose to this young lady and he suggests putting this ring into her champagne glass.

Diana:

And the.

Diana:

He gets mocked for his lack of originality, which is shitted on.

Diana:

Which is like a.

Diana:

Correct.

Diana:

It's not original.

Diana:

But also.

Diana:

What the fuck?

Liz:

Rude, man.

Diana:

Rude.

Liz:

Like fuck you.

Liz:

Yeah, no, so, so rude.

Liz:

And then he just crushed that little boy's face.

Liz:

And it just like.

Liz:

He's so sweet.

Diana:

Yes.

Diana:

And then these two like kind of douchier guys come in and one has a very scary face in the reflection.

Diana:

So he is not human.

Diana:

And.

Diana:

And the maitre d, Maurice, is very distracted with these two guys now and just totally dismisses Ross.

Diana:

So we've got these two guys.

Diana:

One of them is Mr.

Diana:

Elasiter.

Diana:

And he is being escorted by this dude without a face, this creepy Face.

Diana:

He has a face.

Diana:

This is real creepy face.

Liz:

I don't like it.

Diana:

And they get to go to the secret club that you have to have the keypad entry for in the back of the restaurant.

Diana:

Well, at first I was like, oh, it's got to speak easy like everybody has for a minute.

Diana:

But I was like, oh, wait, never mind.

Diana:

Because Mindy is the bartender and she is clearly not a human.

Diana:

And she tells Mr.

Diana:

Lassiter that she liked him better as a blonde because he has brown hair.

Diana:

And then he shows the best superpower ever because he just.

Liz:

He just.

Liz:

Just shifts his hair color.

Liz:

He doesn't have to make him make an appointment to go get a blonding and then do all the things like that you man, that just saved like, oh, man, it's like a whole day.

Liz:

He just saved super power.

Diana:

I don't mind getting a haircut.

Diana:

Just give me the color.

Diana:

Like, let me.

Diana:

Let's handle that.

Diana:

That's a good superpower.

Diana:

For real.

Diana:

So anyways, basically this club in the back of this rest fancy ass restaurant is full of supernatural creatures, monsters.

Liz:

The club that, you know, the thing that we all want the goth bar to be.

Liz:

That is never that.

Liz:

It never is.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

And then apparently Mr.

Diana:

Lasseter has some like, douchebag rival because these guys are a little douchey, so.

Diana:

Oh, look at that.

Diana:

And to Julian.

Diana:

And they're bowing up to each other basically Blasters like, I don't want trouble.

Diana:

I just want to drink.

Diana:

And Julian's like, oh, I want to eat Taylor Swift's heart.

Diana:

But anyways, they're just like bow.

Diana:

They're just jerking off to each other, basically.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

And we do get a werewolves or sons of.

Liz:

And they really hammer on the werewolves on like this whole.

Diana:

They do.

Diana:

There's a lot about that happens a lot.

Diana:

And they fight briefly, but it gets broken up very quick.

Diana:

And because they're like, they don't really want this to escalate.

Diana:

And then somebody, some weird dude in a hood with big claws cuts the power.

Diana:

And this is where we get to see Mindy's forked tongue for a minute, which is kind of cool.

Diana:

And then just.

Liz:

It's just like.

Liz:

It's like, so what the is she?

Diana:

I don't know.

Diana:

Yeah, I don't know.

Diana:

But we've got this hooded dude, this dumb dude with a hood on and has knife claws and just start slashing everybody.

Diana:

Yep.

Liz:

Claus just started clawing and.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

So back in the restaurant.

Diana:

Ross.

Diana:

Mr.

Diana:

Ross.

Diana:

His name is Ennis.

Diana:

Yes, they called him that at first.

Liz:

That's his last name.

Diana:

I know, but they.

Diana:

She even joked about it calling him Mr.

Diana:

Ross.

Diana:

Anyway, so Ennis drags his date outside, Tamara.

Diana:

And.

Diana:

And she's like, what, are we just leaving?

Diana:

He's like, that place isn't for us.

Diana:

He's so offended that he's walked out at the restaurant noting.

Diana:

And they go to the ferry stop and he's giving this.

Liz:

Fuck that opening place.

Liz:

Like, no, no.

Liz:

Yeah, I would say fuck that place too.

Diana:

For real.

Diana:

And they're at the ferry stop because he describes how they first.

Diana:

The time.

Diana:

The first time they met was right there in fifth grade.

Diana:

And it's super fucking cute.

Diana:

And he's about to propose, but then Mr.

Diana:

Lasseter stumbles down the stairs bleeding everywhere, and is in collapses, like in front of Ennis.

Diana:

And like Tamara's frequent France, frantically trying to call 911 while Mr.

Diana:

Lasseter says, It's Sal.

Diana:

Lasseter says, sorry, David, I didn't have a choice.

Diana:

Well, the hooded dude just shows up, slams poor Tamara's head into the wall, and then rips out Sal's heart.

Liz:

And he's just clawing away, just clawing stuff.

Diana:

Well, and it's just washes all this.

Diana:

And he's like, what the.

Diana:

This is really sad.

Diana:

I don't like this.

Liz:

Yeah, don't like.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

So he finishes off Sal and then we just have.

Liz:

And is crying over Tam's body.

Diana:

Yeah, I don't like it.

Diana:

And then we cut to Northern Chicago University and at Professor Graham's mathematics department office, we get a guy creeping in who's acting very awkward, but he looks like Professor Graham, apparently.

Diana:

And he's supposed to be that.

Diana:

Apparently Professor Graham supposed to be gone, but whatever.

Diana:

And so this guy goes into Professor Graham's office and uses a USB to download the spring finals cheaters.

Diana:

And while he's doing so, he changes form to a different person and calls Matt to tell him that he has the math final and it is for sale.

Liz:

So he's a shape shifter using his powers to steal Tess?

Diana:

Yes.

Diana:

And when he goes back outside the building, he retakes his call from Margot, who has been calling, and she says that he needs to come home now because her brother Sal is dead.

Diana:

So at the police station, Ennis is telling what he saw to a detective.

Liz:

I know what I saw.

Liz:

I know what I saw.

Diana:

Yeah, he's not gonna.

Diana:

He's not gonna be swayed to change his story.

Diana:

And the detectives like insisting I'm trying to help.

Diana:

And they obviously know each other and it's because it's Because Ennis's dad was a cop who was killed in line of duty.

Diana:

And so he worked with the detective.

Diana:

And they know each other, but who appears but Sam and Dean as Agents Bottom and Perth.

Diana:

And our detective is like, what the.

Diana:

What is the.

Diana:

What does the FBI want to do with this at all?

Diana:

And they say that this perp fits a profile.

Diana:

But anyways, so Sam wants to hear about.

Diana:

Sam wants to hear Ennis's story and he tells it.

Diana:

And then Sam says, there's nothing you could have done.

Diana:

And Ennis is like, that thing wasn't human.

Diana:

And.

Diana:

But what are you guys gonna do about it?

Diana:

And Dean's just like, I don't know.

Diana:

There's no such thing as monsters.

Liz:

And he leaves.

Diana:

That's rude.

Diana:

So our detective is now meeting with Margot.

Diana:

Our detective.

Diana:

Freddy is his name, but.

Diana:

So Margot is who is calling Sal.

Diana:

So Margot is a Lassiter.

Diana:

She is.

Diana:

We figure out pretty quickly that she's the heir, I guess, to the Lassiter family.

Diana:

Whatever.

Diana:

But she has really, really good suits.

Diana:

I really like her outfits.

Diana:

But anyway, she wants to know about the ghouls.

Diana:

And because they.

Diana:

Her family pays Freddie and he.

Diana:

And basically he says that people have.

Diana:

His.

Diana:

Freddy's telling her that people have concerns about the family.

Diana:

She's like, nope, you gotta tell the ghouls and the gin and anybody else that I run the family now.

Liz:

And then she says she'll bend them over jama 45 elbow deep and empty the damn clip.

Diana:

She does say that.

Liz:

It's so terrible.

Liz:

So terrible, girl.

Diana:

She's overcompensating.

Liz:

Also, no, it's not a clip.

Liz:

It's a magazine.

Liz:

Anyhow, okay, so David, Yeah, David comes home.

Diana:

And Margot wants to blame the wolves for everything up because insane.

Diana:

They're the ones that clawed out Sal's heart.

Diana:

And she shows David her two henchmen who are prepping guns, which David refers to as NRA Christmas.

Diana:

And basically there's.

Diana:

There's definitely a disconnect.

Diana:

Freddy does not think that it is a good call for Margo to send these guys out with a bunch of guns to go shoot up all the wolves.

Diana:

But she's ready for war and that's all there is to it.

Diana:

She's running now.

Diana:

Sal's dead.

Diana:

David left.

Diana:

She's.

Diana:

Dad's dying.

Diana:

She's in charge.

Diana:

But.

Diana:

So, yeah, we.

Diana:

He does go to see dad and there is.

Diana:

He's in a unconscious unwell situation.

Diana:

And she point.

Diana:

And Margo points out that David's been gone for three years.

Diana:

And.

Diana:

But he really wants to know if she is certain that it was Julian who killed Sal.

Diana:

He knows they hate each other, but.

Diana:

But she's like, you know, I had to be.

Diana:

It's just all there is to it.

Diana:

And David's like, but you're not sure.

Diana:

And so there's just like this whole family rival thing because basically.

Diana:

And she that wants to throw in his face that his ex, Violet is getting married to a New York wolf that she was pimped out to by her dad.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

Then there's some more dialogue that all my notes say is, this dialogue is so bad that I can't write about it.

Liz:

So I don't have anything till we go to a Jen.

Diana:

Julian is meeting with a Jin and the Jin wants to know if the shifters were going to make a move because Margo is not stupid.

Diana:

And as they're discussing this, Violet interrupts because she heard about Sal last that are dying.

Diana:

So Violet is part of Julian's family.

Diana:

And Julian's being very sarcastic, sarcastic in response about all this, but she is concerned that Julian.

Diana:

Violet is concerned that Julian did kill Sal and wants to know why he's meeting with a djinn.

Diana:

And he's like, no, I didn't kill him, but I'm gonna let Margo think I did so that she can, you know, take.

Diana:

Bring the war on and we will just be already sided with the gents who will win, basically.

Diana:

And she want.

Diana:

Margot wants us or sorry, Violet, excuse me, wants to stop Julian from letting the war happen.

Diana:

And he tells her she's a.

Diana:

Because she is a female werewolf and she is a princess and she should be pretty and silent and she doesn't.

Liz:

Get a vote as he's being super aggressive and throwing her up against the wall.

Liz:

It is gross.

Liz:

It is.

Liz:

Whatever this is, is fucking awful and.

Diana:

I don't like it unpleasant.

Diana:

Well, Ennis has gone home.

Diana:

He takes the train back to his house, which is like a cooled house, but it's very, very like it needs a lot of love anyways.

Diana:

And goes digs in his dad's foot locker and he.

Diana:

We've got little black submarines by the Black Keys playing in the background.

Diana:

And he gets out his dad's service pistol and finds a.

Diana:

Some bullets as well.

Diana:

And they all have sigils cut in them.

Liz:

They're fancy and they're silver.

Diana:

They are.

Diana:

And he also finds a lock pick gun thing.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

And this is like the most amazing thing that I didn't really know existed until I watched this show.

Liz:

And so this is how the only Redeeming thing about this episode was that I had to.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

When he pulled out the lock picking gun, I actually had to stop and go shopping.

Liz:

And so, I mean, you know, you can get a lock picking gun for like under a hundred bucks.

Diana:

I don't know if that makes me feel better or worse.

Liz:

Just saying.

Liz:

Yeah, also you have to have like, you had to want to know how to use it, you know, and so like, you can't just like get a lock picking gun and like shove it in a lock and like think like it's going to be.

Liz:

I mean, it's basically just all your different lock picks that you can just kind of shuffle through and then it's got a little motor and then you can go.

Liz:

And then.

Liz:

So some of them kind of look like the gun.

Liz:

And so they kind of like a blue gun for the most part, but there's also some that kind of look like a sonic screwdriver.

Liz:

And they also look like you could take somebody's eye out with them.

Liz:

Huh.

Liz:

And Those run about 250 bucks, but generally made in Germany.

Liz:

So I'm just, I'm not saying that you should buy lock picks or use them because that would be very illegal.

Liz:

But I'm just saying if you want, I mean, buy them on the Internet.

Diana:

He didn't make the Internet.

Liz:

I didn't, I didn't make these things.

Liz:

I'm just saying they're there.

Diana:

Well, he's pulling all this out of his dad's police foot locker back at the ferry station.

Diana:

Now he's gonna go check out people taking pictures of this crime scene.

Diana:

And then he's gonna have his flashback to Tamara's death, which is terrible and sad.

Diana:

Then he's gonna pick the locks and go into the secret club, which is dark and empty because it's daytime and it's all fucked up still with like claw marks and blood everywhere.

Liz:

Yeah.

Diana:

But as he's looking around, of course, the lights, somebody comes in, the lights come on and there's, you know, our.

Diana:

Looks like our matrid with a mop bucket, but he can smell Ennis.

Diana:

So now we have a hint that Ennis or that this matridy guy is not human.

Diana:

As he gets close, Ennis pulls a gun, refers to himself as police, which is probably not why super wise.

Diana:

And we find out that this is a vampire he's up against.

Diana:

And so he gets shot a bunch.

Diana:

And just in time, Sam and Dean appear and behead it.

Diana:

But.

Diana:

Nd makes a.

Diana:

A joke about beheading.

Diana:

But there we go.

Diana:

But they're like, yeah, now's a good time to run.

Diana:

But Ennis is like, nah, I need to know what the fuck's happening.

Diana:

So Dean tells Sam to give him the talk.

Diana:

Sam does, gives an intro, blah, blah, blah.

Diana:

And I like that.

Diana:

NS Calls them monster cops.

Liz:

Yeah.

Diana:

And then he.

Diana:

But he wants to know what killed his girlfriend.

Diana:

And Dean's like, we don't know.

Diana:

It might be new.

Diana:

And they explain about the guy with the messed up face was probably a wraith.

Diana:

And while this is happening, also, Dean is poking around the cabinets, and they find that the bar of storage is full of blood and meat in the.

Liz:

Best part, props that I have ever seen.

Liz:

And I want them all.

Liz:

Like, I want to know what happened to all these jars of fingers and all these things that were.

Liz:

They are so good.

Liz:

Like, and it's just hilarious.

Liz:

And I do like that, you know, they're.

Liz:

They're also kind of laughing about it, and they're just like, ah, this one's called Susan.

Diana:

Yeah, it's like a freezer bag.

Diana:

It just says Susan and Sharpie on it.

Diana:

It's greatness.

Diana:

Poor Susan.

Liz:

It's so bad.

Liz:

It's so bad.

Diana:

So it's a monster VIP club.

Diana:

And Ennis is like, I want to join whatever you guys are doing.

Diana:

My life is already ruined.

Diana:

So there we go.

Diana:

And Sam's like, no, sorry.

Diana:

Not gonna work.

Diana:

So Ennis is home again by himself, and he's researching Sal Lassiter because now he's heard this name.

Diana:

And our detective guy shows up and wants to talk about what killed Tamara and what did this thing look like?

Diana:

And so.

Diana:

And it's like, what the.

Diana:

You didn't really want to talk about this before, but, okay, let's talk.

Diana:

And then Ennis decides to give, like, a little test because they did figure out, he did learn from Sam and Dean that mirrors and cameras sometimes will reveal faces.

Diana:

So first he said, hey, you know, do you want to hang out and say hi to my dad when he.

Diana:

When he gets off work or from the graveyard shift?

Diana:

And Freddie's like, oh, yeah, sure.

Diana:

Dad's dead.

Diana:

Freddy knows Dad's dead.

Diana:

This is a test he has now failed.

Diana:

So Ennis is pretending to text and pulls up his camera, and now he sees Freddie's eyes glow.

Diana:

So he knows.

Liz:

I think you should do this, like, with everybody who comes to your door.

Liz:

You should always check, like, ask them, like, a question, like, just to trip them up.

Liz:

Just, how do you know that's really Dave, right?

Liz:

So, like, every time, like, you go home, you should, like, ask a question to make sure.

Diana:

Oh, well, Freddy's Island.

Liz:

Like, you'd be like, no.

Liz:

Like, at one time, you'll be like, wait, I didn't plan for, like, what would happen when you actually were a shapeshifter.

Diana:

Who wasn't prepared.

Diana:

So.

Diana:

And this is pretty smart.

Diana:

On his feet.

Diana:

He's like, oh, I got this.

Diana:

He's like, oh, why don't you come with me and I'll show you the jacket.

Diana:

Forensics already checked it out.

Diana:

That got slashed up.

Diana:

And he's like, oh, yeah, cool.

Diana:

And so he gets him to the bedroom, and as soon as he gets close, he goes and grabs the pistol and points it because he's gonna shoot the guy.

Diana:

And he's like, I have a silver bullet.

Diana:

You're not Freddy.

Diana:

And he shape shifts.

Diana:

It is David Lasseter.

Diana:

So this is the brother.

Diana:

And he's like, look, I'm.

Liz:

He sounds like he's in an AA meeting.

Liz:

I'm David Lasseter, and I'm a shapeshifter.

Diana:

He's trying.

Diana:

I lost someone, too.

Diana:

I just.

Diana:

Do you know what's going on out there?

Diana:

And, like, all this?

Diana:

And.

Diana:

And this is, like, you.

Diana:

I know about freaks and hunters pass on all this.

Diana:

And David's like, oh, well.

Diana:

Chicago is divided between five monster families.

Diana:

They own the police.

Liz:

What?

Liz:

Chicago has corruption.

Liz:

That could never happen.

Liz:

The mob would never interfere with the police in Chicago.

Diana:

See, with shakedowns and organ trafficking, there's werewolves at one side of town.

Diana:

Jyn have another.

Diana:

And then he doesn't list the others.

Diana:

And that made me sad.

Diana:

And then.

Diana:

But he.

Diana:

He's trying to keep.

Diana:

David insists that he's trying to keep the peace and keep human casualties at a minimum.

Diana:

Well, all the families are.

Diana:

But he really is.

Diana:

Because right now, there's about to be a war.

Diana:

He's the only guy trying to prevent it, really.

Diana:

So David's like.

Diana:

And she's got to stay fucking out of this.

Diana:

Do you see the cuts in this jacket?

Diana:

They are flecked with silver.

Diana:

I can tell because it burns my face when I rub your jacket on my face, which is.

Liz:

I just decided to rub your jacket on my face.

Liz:

This is how I test.

Liz:

I rub all clothes on my face to test them for silver.

Diana:

So.

Diana:

But he knows that Julian is a werewolf, and Julian does not have silver claws.

Diana:

Therefore, Julian did not slash the jacket and was not the murderer.

Diana:

And he reveals all this, which is kind of interesting, just to tell this story to Ennis, and then throws the jacket in Ennis's face and Runs away.

Liz:

He just eats away.

Diana:

You tell.

Diana:

So now Ennis is pissed that he got fucking like, this guy just ditched him again.

Diana:

But now he's got another name to Google.

Diana:

So now he's gonna go Google Julian Duvall.

Diana:

They're just going to his face their.

Liz:

Facebook pages, like, asking to be friends.

Diana:

Oh, no.

Diana:

He's gonna go stalk his house.

Liz:

Yeah, because his house address was on the Internet.

Liz:

Cool.

Liz:

All right.

Liz:

So they.

Liz:

He has found that he printed out his map quest, he drove over and he went there.

Diana:

Well, I say to take the train, so I don't know if that's harder or easier.

Diana:

Right.

Diana:

I don't know.

Diana:

Either way.

Diana:

So we see Sam and Dean are there.

Diana:

And he sees Sam.

Diana:

And here's Sam and Dean.

Diana:

They are outside bullshitting outside of the house.

Diana:

They're actually kind of talking loud and not listening very closely.

Liz:

Yeah, they're not doing a good stakeout.

Liz:

They're just like, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Liz:

We're here.

Diana:

But apparently Sam is telling Dean that Julian paid the coroner to see Sal's corpse.

Diana:

And so it's just talking about.

Diana:

Just basically talking about throwing around money.

Diana:

But either way.

Diana:

So Violet is trying to leave the house.

Diana:

And the guy pretending to be her butler is actually David.

Diana:

He shapeshifted and.

Diana:

But he assures her that the real butler is safe.

Diana:

He is just locked in a closet.

Diana:

And she tells David she's very sorry about Sal.

Diana:

And David's like, I know Julian didn't do it.

Diana:

I'm trying to stop a war.

Diana:

But this is when he finds out that Julian does not want to stop the war.

Diana:

And that's the.

Diana:

That's the biggest problem.

Diana:

And she's like, look, it doesn't matter what we do.

Diana:

What are we gonna do about it?

Diana:

You're a runaway, and I'm a.

Diana:

Doesn't matter.

Liz:

Okay, so that.

Liz:

That came again.

Liz:

Yeah, so I.

Liz:

I didn't even write down any of that.

Liz:

I just put.

Liz:

They fight and Violet runs.

Liz:

All right.

Liz:

Then there's no.

Liz:

The claw monster jumps down.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

Claw monster jumps on her.

Diana:

Well, they get.

Diana:

We get alluded to.

Diana:

They're supposed to meet up at something.

Diana:

Oh, yeah.

Liz:

So they're supposed to meet at Union Station.

Liz:

That didn't happen.

Liz:

Happen.

Liz:

And so they just couldn't do it.

Liz:

They.

Liz:

They.

Liz:

Yeah.

Diana:

And she's the one that set a time and a place.

Diana:

He was there.

Diana:

And then she didn't show up.

Diana:

And they cry.

Diana:

Then the hooded dude jumps down and he's.

Diana:

David tells her to run.

Diana:

David fights the hooded dude and he's Clawing.

Diana:

And he's trying to get to David's chest.

Diana:

And then as he's yelling, Sam and Dean finally hear this commotion because, like, they haven't heard anything.

Diana:

And then as they start running up, Ennis also it heard.

Diana:

And shoots the hooded guy.

Diana:

And as that guy runs away and they all worry about David, we hear in distance Violet screaming.

Diana:

So now David, Enna, Sam and Dean are all running in the woods looking for a Violet.

Diana:

I don't know.

Diana:

Anyways, and then at this point, all of a sudden, the house alarm starts going off.

Diana:

So now they're like, okay, now we have to.

Diana:

Now we gotta go.

Diana:

Go together, guys.

Diana:

So they're all going to go together.

Diana:

And David tells Sam and Dean about what's.

Diana:

What the.

Diana:

Going on with all the families.

Diana:

And Dean's like, what the Is this?

Diana:

Godfather with fangs?

Diana:

But Ennis needs their help and so does David because Violet is not answering calls.

Diana:

And so this is the.

Diana:

The whole thing.

Diana:

They're.

Diana:

They.

Diana:

We find out, we know.

Diana:

We now know that she's a werewolf.

Diana:

Everybody knows this.

Diana:

And they're going to use the cell signal to track her down.

Liz:

Because Sam can just do that.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

From his phone.

Diana:

From his phone, sure.

Diana:

That's how that goes.

Diana:

I did, like, on one hand, I did, like, an exchange.

Diana:

Yeah, that's.

Diana:

Which is weird.

Diana:

But I did, like, one exchange.

Diana:

I thought it was fun.

Diana:

Like a.

Diana:

Well, or interesting execution in that Ennis and Dean had a similar reaction to the werewolf thing.

Diana:

And then Ennis and Sam had a similar reaction to the cell phone triangulation thing.

Diana:

That was interesting.

Diana:

There we go.

Diana:

So, hey, Dean has to explain to Ennis that sometimes they got to work with bad guy like David to get to the worst guy.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

So now Dean's like, sometimes you got to be okay with monsters.

Liz:

And, like.

Liz:

Okay, so this is a new one or whatever.

Liz:

So now Dean's.

Diana:

But Crowley.

Diana:

And there's a few.

Liz:

I know, but this is Dean.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

So half the time, monsters are all bad.

Liz:

Half the time.

Diana:

Oh, yeah.

Liz:

Dean very inconsistent.

Diana:

Dean's very inconsistent.

Liz:

This is a very inconsistent thing.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

Although he does.

Liz:

Ennis does call the shapeshifter a transformer.

Liz:

And I think that was amusing.

Diana:

So awesome.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

So Violet is chained to a pole.

Diana:

Her phone's on the floor.

Diana:

There's a kind of a murder wall, but it's really just a lot of baby pictures.

Liz:

It's a baby murder ward.

Liz:

That's what I called it the whole time.

Diana:

Here we go.

Diana:

I appreciate that.

Diana:

With pictures of this kid and baby and news Articles and our hooded guy is there and he takes off his hood and a mask and his goggles.

Diana:

And it is interesting that he is just a man.

Diana:

Just a person.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

Because people are up and so.

Liz:

And people who.

Liz:

Yeah.

Diana:

Sam, Dean, Ennis and David all in baby pull up to this industrial site after because they've been able to track her phone apparently because.

Diana:

Sure.

Diana:

And they like David tries to have a moment with Ennis and connect about sympathy about Tamara and Sal dying together.

Diana:

I guess it's very weird.

Diana:

And they actually kind of do though.

Diana:

But this is the interesting thing is Ennis now shares with David what Sal said when he was dying, which was an apology to David and said that he had to do.

Diana:

You know, he didn't have a choice.

Diana:

I think it's interesting.

Diana:

So we back in the.

Diana:

Inside the building, we.

Diana:

Our hooded dude is.

Diana:

I don't know, talking about how the silver claws that he made burn.

Diana:

Silver only burns if you're evil and like touches her face.

Diana:

That's really creepy.

Diana:

And he kind of explains that this his baby's kid was.

Diana:

Kid was his son and it was killed.

Diana:

And he believes that Sal ripped him apart.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

He thinks Sal and Julian ate his baby.

Diana:

Yes.

Liz:

Which I don't think Sal and Julian ate his baby.

Diana:

I don't think so either.

Liz:

No matter what his baby murder board says.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

It doesn't really make sense.

Diana:

And she's kind of like, wait, no, they kind of hate each other and they really put they.

Diana:

And they wouldn't like hurt a kid together.

Diana:

That's just really weird.

Diana:

But he doesn't care.

Diana:

He wants to kill Violet and leave her pieces all over town because.

Diana:

And as she's trying to like talk him down, she realizes that he like actually wants this war also, which we don't really because he thinks it's going to be all monsters killing monsters or freaks killing freaks, as he calls it.

Diana:

And she's like, don't you realize that people are going to die in the crossfire of this?

Diana:

Because I guess so somewhere in this.

Diana:

But this kid, his kid gets killed, which is terrible and sad.

Diana:

But he goes down this rabbit hole to and finds out about monsters somehow.

Liz:

And then decides monsters in Chicago that have all these monster families and their mafia families.

Liz:

So when he starts this war, all the gangs are going to start killing each other and then like all the children are going to die and won't somebody think of the children?

Diana:

Yeah, it doesn't make sense.

Diana:

But either way.

Diana:

So we've got our.

Diana:

Our intended rescuers arriving.

Diana:

Dean and David are together and Sam and Ennis.

Diana:

But David gets separated from Dean pretty quickly and ends up getting caught by hooded guy and tied up next to Violet.

Diana:

So we get a super fun exchange because he, the hooded guy first heard some.

Diana:

Apparently overheard some of their conversations before and made talk about how it almost sounded human.

Diana:

And he's like.

Diana:

Starts to stab David a little bit with his big silver claws and it hurts and she.

Diana:

Violet's gonna start wolfing out.

Diana:

And finally wolf's out so much that she frees herself and attacks the hooded guy.

Diana:

While that's happening, David is so upset by this that he frees himself to stop her from killing this guy.

Liz:

Yes.

Liz:

And for some reason he asked her not to.

Liz:

To eat Bonobo Wolverine.

Diana:

Okay, why?

Diana:

Anyways, and as this is all happening, Sam, Dean and Ennis finally arrive and this guy's like, this guy apologizes to Ennis about his girl.

Diana:

What the fuck?

Diana:

Just rude.

Diana:

Shut the fuck up.

Diana:

And that she was in the way.

Diana:

And you have to understand that they're monsters.

Diana:

So Anna says the only monster.

Diana:

There's only one monster here.

Diana:

And he shoots him.

Liz:

Just.

Liz:

Yep.

Liz:

So it kills a human being.

Liz:

Okay, so that happens.

Liz:

And then we're out in the woods or wherever.

Liz:

I don't know where they are.

Diana:

It's like this wooded area leading into the.

Diana:

Julian's house or whatever, the wolf house.

Diana:

And David and Violet are trying to have a moment and he's like, he wants to know.

Diana:

He's still like trying to ponder what Sal could have been apologizing for possibly.

Diana:

And.

Diana:

And she knows apparently that she gets a flashback and the whole thing is basically Sal went and told her she went to go meet David at the station.

Diana:

Sal was there when he.

Diana:

When she arrived and said yeah, don't.

Diana:

And she thought David wasn't coming.

Diana:

He's like, no, no, David will be here, but you won't be.

Diana:

And if you are here, I will basically, I'm going to kill you.

Diana:

Because we can't do this because it's just going to cause so much drama with families and everything else.

Diana:

People believe in these crazy pure bloodlines and they're going to pay back everyone.

Liz:

Who wants to keep their bloodlines pure.

Liz:

Which is.

Liz:

Oh, that's never a good thing to say out loud.

Diana:

And well, but he kind of makes it sound like he doesn't necessarily buy in or care, but that everybody else does.

Diana:

So doesn't really matter.

Diana:

And.

Diana:

Which is not a good answer either.

Liz:

But no, no, it's not.

Liz:

Because he basically says he's going to kill her.

Liz:

If she doesn't leave his.

Liz:

His brother.

Diana:

Yes.

Liz:

So no.

Liz:

And he.

Liz:

Sal sucks.

Diana:

And then he's like.

Diana:

And she's like, I.

Diana:

I love him.

Diana:

And he's like, I wish that mattered.

Diana:

It sucks.

Diana:

It sucks.

Diana:

So David.

Diana:

David's just pondering how he's like, sal always had my back.

Diana:

And she turns to go, but then she turns back and gives him a big old kiss.

Liz:

They slurpily make out like, yeah, there's lots of.

Liz:

Just like.

Diana:

But they don't.

Diana:

But she never tells.

Diana:

I don't know how I feel about that.

Diana:

That's annoying.

Liz:

So, nope, she doesn't tell him.

Diana:

And, yeah, so David goes to talk to his dad, and his dad says, stop Margo.

Diana:

Stop her from starting a war.

Diana:

But.

Diana:

And he goes to do that.

Diana:

And she pretends to greet him, but she is definitely not thrilled that David is back with the family now and what, doesn't want this work.

Diana:

Then Sam and Dean are dropping Ennis off at home where he lives alone.

Diana:

And while Sam and Ennis kind of just chat for a minute, Dean gets a call.

Diana:

And it's very intense.

Diana:

And apparently they have a shot at Metatron.

Diana:

Cas may have found has access to him.

Diana:

So Sam tells Ennis, look, we're gonna call in a bunch of hunters to solve this monster mob thing, but, you know, don't worry about it.

Diana:

And it's like, no, no, I want this.

Diana:

Sam's like, no, no, really, really shouldn't do anything.

Diana:

Okay, bye.

Diana:

And they drive away.

Diana:

Leave him there.

Liz:

Don't do anything.

Liz:

Goodbye.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

And so Ennis has a little bit of a monologue moment.

Diana:

And he couldn't walk away, but he's got to start somewhere.

Diana:

And we see him loading his pistol and going.

Diana:

He wants to go back to research the murder.

Diana:

The hooded guy's murder board.

Liz:

Like, why are all these babies on here?

Liz:

What is.

Liz:

What am I supp.

Liz:

Was.

Liz:

Am I murdering a baby?

Diana:

Well, and then he's got.

Diana:

He's wearing the engagement ring on his neck as a reminder.

Diana:

And he gets a call from an unknown caller.

Diana:

And he answers.

Diana:

It says, what are you doing?

Diana:

If you start hunting, the monsters will kill you.

Diana:

And it says, dad's voice.

Liz:

His dead father.

Liz:

And that's how it ends.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

So before we go into.

Liz:

What the was that?

Liz:

So, Diana, tell us about who.

Liz:

Who is in this show.

Diana:

Casting cow.

Liz:

It's the casting couch.

Host:

Were they on that show that time with that guy?

Diana:

Well, Ennis Ross was played by Lucien Laviscount.

Diana:

He is British, actually.

Diana:

He's been in episodes of Shameless Earl.

Diana:

He was Earl Grey in Scream Queens over a dozen times.

Diana:

He was Billy in the series Snatch over 20 times.

Diana:

And I know him from as being Alfie and Emily in Paris most recently, most multiple seasons of that.

Diana:

And this is the moment where I did get annoyed because by the way, I watched the episode and we'll talk about the episode a minute and.

Diana:

But we don't see this character again.

Diana:

We'll come back to that in a minute, I guess.

Diana:

So that's my.

Diana:

This is where it turns all right for me.

Diana:

So David Lasseter was played by Nathaniel Bodolik and he is actually Australian, so he got some good international representation.

Diana:

He's been episodes of Bones and Legacies.

Diana:

He was in Vampire Diaries as Cole and in Originals he was also Herald in Hacksaw Ridge.

Diana:

Julian Duvall was played by Sean Ferris.

Diana:

He has been episodes Smallville, One Tree Hill, Vampire Diaries a few times, Leverage.

Diana:

He was a gunner in Pearl harbor and he was Carl in Sparkle.

Diana:

A unicorn tail I just wrote down because I want to watch it anyways.

Diana:

Violet Duvall was played by Melissa Roxburg.

Diana:

She's been more than one episode of Supernatural and she's been episodes of Arrow, Travelers, Tracker and Quantum Leap.

Diana:

She was Rachel in Diary of a Wimpy Critic, Roderick Rules, Heather in Diary of a Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dog Days, Jenny in Leprechaun Originals and the Ensign in Star Trek beyond, and a reoccurring character named Michaela in the show Manifest.

Diana:

Margot Lassiter was played by Danielle Sarf.

Diana:

She's been episodes of X Files, csi, Charmed Closer, Malcolm in the Middle, CSI Miami, Blue Bloods a few times, Grey's Anatomy a handful of times.

Diana:

She was Brianna in Bring It on, all or Nothing, Jackie in the TV show Heroes and Maya in the TV show Station 19.

Diana:

Freddy Costa was played by Our detective was played by Stephen Martinez.

Diana:

He doesn't have any credits after this show.

Liz:

Interesting.

Diana:

Yeah, but he has been in episodes of Bones, CSI Closer, Vampire Diaries a few times, Mentalist, Burn Notice a handful of times.

Diana:

He was Nicholas and Marcus in General Hospital over 178 times.

Diana:

And he was Tony in Guiding Light over 30 times.

Diana:

Sal Lassiter was played by Bryce Johnson in episodes of Gilmore Girls, Dawson's Creek, House, Nip Tuck, Mentalist, CSI New York, CSI Glee, NCIS a couple times.

Diana:

Good Doctor, American Horror Story.

Diana:

It was Greg in Bring It On Again.

Diana:

He was an officer in Oppenheimer and he was another Greg in terrifier 3.

Diana:

Tamara was played by Aaron Westbrook in Episodes of half a dozen episodes of Glee.

Diana:

She was in Bones.

Diana:

She was in TV show Constantine, ncis, and Legacies.

Diana:

She was also Magnolia in the series Insatiable, which I really enjoyed.

Diana:

And then she was Tabitha in Riverdale.

Diana:

And then Irv, which apparently was supposed to be the name of our bad guy, but I never really showed his name or said it in the episode was by Michael J.

Diana:

Rogers.

Diana:

Also has another role in Supernatural, but he's been as Gluttony, but he was in episodes of MacGyver, 21 Jump Street, X Files A couple times.

Diana:

w and order, criminal intent,:

Diana:

He was a detective in Hellraiser, Hell Seeker, and a recurring character named Commander David Kyle in Siren.

Diana:

Boom.

Diana:

Big cast.

Liz:

It's a big cast.

Diana:

That was a good cast.

Liz:

Well, there's a reason it was a big cast, because what the was this?

Liz:

This was supposed to be a backdoor.

Liz:

Yeah.

Diana:

What.

Diana:

What the is not lore.

Diana:

That's what this is, right?

Liz:

Yeah, it's not lore.

Liz:

I mean, the.

Liz:

Really?

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

So this was supposed to be a backdoor pilot.

Liz:

This was supposed to be a spin off a Supernatural.

Liz:

This is the direction they chose to go for the first spin off.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

And if you thought it reminded you of the originals, that is because this came out right when Vampire Diaries was really, really like, Elena just left.

Liz:

It was originals just coming, and then they're like, hey, even the person who wrote this, Andrew Dab, was like, maybe this was a little too close to the originals.

Liz:

Yeah, it was very, very close to it.

Liz:

So that's just one of the reasons why this never actually came to be.

Liz:

But this show was supposed to be executive produced by Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb, and then they even had Jeremy Carver mcg.

Liz:

By the way, thank you for saving Henson Studios and Kripke on as co executive producers.

Liz:

was gonna happen at Comic Con:

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

No, that they changed, so ended up being changed to Bloodline.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

But if you so in, to answer what your question, when you said they didn't, like, go through, like, what the other families were.

Liz:

So you saw in here how, like, they have, like, that one, like, vampire, but he wasn't, like, cool.

Liz:

And that's because in Supernatural world, according to Dab, vampires and Supernatural have always been really down and dirty and our trucks or bikers or things like that.

Liz:

So the ruling families were actually supposed to be shapeshifters werewolves, ghouls, jinn and sirens.

Liz:

And they didn't get to the sirens into this episode, like.

Liz:

Well, because they.

Liz:

You're.

Liz:

This is the thing with a backdoor pilot too.

Liz:

Like, you're shoving in all this exposition and when you take something so far away from how a show is going to structure, like you're going to have, you can't fit that all into an hour.

Liz:

Right.

Diana:

It's a lot of narrative to.

Diana:

In backstory to fit into.

Liz:

There's a lot of narrative.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

And so Dab also said that shape shifters are by their nature con men a little bit.

Liz:

Werewolves are a little bit more aggressive in our world, a little bit more dapper.

Liz:

So they were giving the werewolves like a different turn than like, we've already met Garth's werewolf family, but we haven't met anything like this, right?

Diana:

No.

Diana:

Sam had the girlfriend who was cute and had the apartment.

Diana:

Right.

Diana:

And that was about it.

Liz:

Yeah, but she wasn't a.

Liz:

She wasn't aware, like, she wasn't a werewolf by trade.

Liz:

She was just learning she was a werewolf.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

So.

Liz:

And also, like the lycanthropes were supposed to like, be a part of the Chicago of the government.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

And the ghouls were supposed to be an industrious breed of monster holding jobs in the human world.

Liz:

And the Jinn would bring a distinctive visual and family oriented vibe, while sirens are a chance to give us a more femme fatale type thing.

Liz:

And then they also were going to have shove this like in this thing being the human working with monsters.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

They were also trying to add more women as leads.

Liz:

So Margot and Violet is.

Liz:

That's when they were in there.

Liz:

And Margo's like, role description was supposed to be an X punk rocker gone corporate, which is why you probably liked her suits.

Liz:

But.

Liz:

Yeah, but I'm like, what?

Liz:

Okay, so that's.

Liz:

That's a thing.

Liz:

And so Dab also said, you know, I feel we have a real opportunity with Bloodlines to play some more ensemble stuff and really put the focus on female characters in a way we probably haven't been able to do un Supernatural just because of the nature of the show.

Liz:

And which I think is a bit of a cop out and also not true after, you know, I just sat through a panel of all these badass women who end up who have not all been in the next five seasons, are going to be taking on some.

Liz:

Some more roles.

Diana:

Right, right.

Liz:

And so obviously, since we never saw it, CW opted to not order the show as a series, mainly because the fans hated it.

Liz:

Hands hate.

Liz:

Fans hated it because it had nothing to do with Supernatural and nobody liked the characters and everyone's tired of Romeo and Juliet plots and it was all like the originals and fans still hate it.

Liz:

It has a 5.8 rating on IMDb and spoiler alert.

Liz:

Sam and Dean never go back to Chicago.

Liz:

They just opened all this shit.

Liz:

Like, we don't know what hunters went there.

Liz:

Like Violet David ever made up.

Liz:

Like, we don't know what happens except, like.

Liz:

So there was just this, like, whole bunch of families ruling mafia in Chicago that none of the hunters, like, ever knew about.

Liz:

Nobody has known.

Liz:

This has been going on for.

Liz:

There's nothing in the middle letters about this.

Liz:

There's like.

Liz:

Because this sounds like this has been going on for.

Liz:

For quite a while and none of the hunters know about this.

Liz:

And, like, what were they planning on doing if this was spun off in the first place?

Liz:

Because now you have all these monsters that are going after each other.

Liz:

But what, you're gonna put a hunter in there?

Liz:

Like.

Diana:

Sounds like there was not a full plan for the audio.

Diana:

We're going to expand upon this.

Diana:

I will say I like.

Diana:

I happen to like the actor that played Ennis, and I thought it was a cute story and I was very into it.

Diana:

I know I'm the in the minority.

Diana:

I hear that loud and clear.

Diana:

I still thought it was cute and fun, but I will say it did not have anything to do with Supernatural as far as, like, the storyline, looking.

Liz:

At it as it's a cute and fun episode.

Liz:

And also because you like Vampire Dark Diaries and there's something.

Liz:

Not that there's anything.

Liz:

I also am a huge Vampire Diaries fan.

Liz:

However, Supernatural is not Vampire Diaries.

Liz:

And it's this whole.

Liz:

The concept of it, you know, going.

Diana:

It just.

Liz:

I feel like they were just trying to superimpose and I.

Liz:

I know they weren't.

Liz:

I mean, I.

Liz:

Robert Singer and Andrew Dabber, you know, all the people they had on board, like, they talked.

Liz:

Kripke was on board with this as the Supernatural spin off.

Liz:

But I mean, not that a Supernatural spin off has worked yet or actually happened.

Liz:

You know, we had one season of Winchesters at this point.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

But, you know, there will be another.

Liz:

At least half.

Liz:

You know, we know there'll be more in the future, but I don't know.

Diana:

I don't know.

Diana:

I.

Diana:

I do.

Diana:

My.

Diana:

My complaint and concern, which I think is valid, is that there was some cheesiness and some weirdness that didn't quite line up with canon.

Diana:

But the bigger Thing was that it didn't really.

Diana:

Like, this episode barely involved Sam and Dean.

Diana:

Like, literally all.

Diana:

And we're at the end of the season, and literally the only thing that mattered, that that impacted the ongoing story, Arch, was the.

Diana:

Oh, we have a shot at Metatron.

Diana:

Which is like a phone call at the end.

Liz:

We got a phone call.

Liz:

We gotta go check on Metatron.

Diana:

They abandon him.

Diana:

But it also brings back things we've talked about, about how they, like, fucking save people or, like, help them or reveal monsters to them and then just deuces and, like, leave them to deal with the aftermath.

Liz:

Don't leave them with no plan of action.

Liz:

They.

Liz:

We're just gonna call up some hunters and have them.

Liz:

Like, what.

Liz:

What were they planning on doing with that anyways?

Liz:

So if this had continued, how would they have handled letting those five families exist in Chicago without hunters going and taking them all out?

Liz:

Like, why would that have been okay?

Liz:

Because clearly you want those families to exist.

Liz:

So you have that storyline going.

Liz:

You can't have the hunters come in and just take out every.

Liz:

Because that's what would happen in Supernatural.

Diana:

Yes.

Diana:

They weren't just gonna let the families run.

Liz:

No.

Liz:

Like, that's not.

Liz:

I mean, I don't know how, like, would Dean and Sam just, like you.

Liz:

It never would have worked.

Diana:

It does with canon in that.

Diana:

In that world.

Diana:

I totally understand that.

Diana:

I still like it.

Liz:

You can understand why it's terrible.

Liz:

It was awesome.

Liz:

Just the dialogue was.

Liz:

Was bad and it was just like.

Liz:

There was so much exposition that was put in there to try and make it work.

Liz:

And it just.

Diana:

Oh, it felt forced.

Diana:

In times, for sure.

Diana:

It was.

Diana:

They were trying to fit way too much into one hour episode.

Diana:

I just really liked the cast and I liked components of the story.

Diana:

So it was really hard for me separating it now, looking.

Diana:

Separating it from what it should have been for the purposes of the series.

Liz:

And then also, it's just, you know, it's a waste of an episode.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

Like, there's no.

Diana:

If they came back to these characters or anything else, that'd be one thing.

Diana:

But since it's literally just this one time, it is kind of a waste of an episode.

Diana:

I also, like, if you put all this effort in to give all this explanation and story building and all this with all these characters, and then.

Diana:

And then you just, like, don't bring them back for us ever again.

Diana:

Like, I get there's other characters like that, but I feel like there was so much effort to never address this again.

Liz:

Nope.

Liz:

Just gone by.

Liz:

Never happened.

Diana:

Sorry.

Liz:

Chicago, you're on your own.

Diana:

That's what's weird to me.

Diana:

It's like.

Diana:

So my moment of getting upset, to be clear, was that I was very much enjoyed this episode, and I did not understand why you were so, like, bleh.

Diana:

And then when I realized that we would never see these characters again, I was like, wait, what?

Liz:

When did you realize that it was a backdoor pilot?

Diana:

A couple hours ago.

Liz:

Not when you watched it?

Diana:

No.

Liz:

Oh, See, and I also think it's so obvious as a pilot, like, watching it, like, oh, wow.

Liz:

Okay.

Liz:

So that's.

Liz:

That's also different that you didn't.

Liz:

You didn't pick up on that.

Liz:

Okay, no, it's so clearly a pilot.

Diana:

But why do I have a reason to think they're gonna do a pilot.

Liz:

Because it was a TV show?

Diana:

Well, but, like, I've never.

Diana:

Like, I've never noticed.

Liz:

I've never seen a pilot.

Liz:

There's gonna be another backdoor pilot episode for a pilot that doesn't happen, and I'm not going to tell you about that one either, and we'll see if you figure that one out.

Diana:

Yeah, I've never seen a pilot like that, so I don't know.

Liz:

See, originally I was going to give you a quiz about all the backdoor pilots that existed, and now I'm feeling kind of bad that I didn't do that, because that would have been really fun to troll you with.

Diana:

That would have been so bad.

Liz:

There have been so.

Liz:

You have seen backdoor pilots?

Liz:

They've existed since before the Jeffers.

Liz:

Like, there have been so many episodes, so many TV shows that have spun off this way.

Diana:

Okay.

Diana:

I don't know.

Liz:

Okay.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

It's a whole special genre of tv.

Diana:

Well, yeah.

Diana:

Here we go.

Diana:

Today I learned.

Liz:

Today you learned.

Liz:

Now your homework.

Liz:

I want you to go go into Wikipedia and go look up backdoor pilot and go look at all the things.

Liz:

Now you have to go learn.

Liz:

Go learn about television.

Liz:

Diana.

Diana:

I don't want to Google that.

Liz:

You're like, that's not how I spend my time.

Liz:

Now all of us can be complete nerds like you.

Liz:

And I don't want.

Diana:

I want to.

Diana:

I want to.

Diana:

I want to eat cake and go to sleep.

Diana:

But don't we all?

Diana:

Don't we all?

Liz:

Did you get leftover wedding cake?

Liz:

Oh, man.

Diana:

A little bit.

Liz:

Just a little bit.

Liz:

Not so good.

Diana:

But yeah.

Diana:

No, I didn't realize afterwards.

Diana:

I was just very.

Diana:

I was very distraught.

Diana:

I was very distraught when I realized we'd never see these characters again.

Diana:

I'm like, this is stupid.

Diana:

So, you know, like, the story was cheesy, but I'm invested.

Diana:

I'm into it.

Diana:

Let's do this.

Diana:

Oh, wait, never mind.

Diana:

This is just filler.

Liz:

You just.

Liz:

Yep.

Liz:

Well, it wasn't supposed to be filler.

Liz:

It was a whole.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

And on that note, filler this.

Liz:

All right.

Liz:

Cheers.

Liz:

Jerk.

Diana:

Cheers, bitch.
